Not an expert on these matters but I believe women wore these as a love token after they were bereaved-had it for years and always meant to get the pin fixed but never did -comes from a smoke free home looks like it might gave the tiniest chip on the edge of the back-if it is a chip it is truly tiny or it could have been a imperfection when made - you can't see it from the front
