A super example of what is known as a nanny brooch That ingenious and decorative gift for nanny - being at once a pretty brooch and an emergency sewing kit Produced around 1880 and featuring a claw set glittering goldstone, the kit remains intact with two colours of thread wound around the central coil which in turn contains a pin and a needle The central part unscrews from one end Made of what appears to be brass, the back displays the makers mark DRCM268036 - see Bell's Collecting Victorian Jewelry pg 152 No chips or damage to the stone, please note the slight splitting on the back of the tube which relates to the production process A lovely example for the collector of jewelry or sewing etui Measures 4.8cm long ( 1 7/8th") with a simple wire open c clasp
