A delightful early Northwood lemonade pitcher with many colors of unusual enameling! Pitcher is from one of the earliest Northwood shapes, blown into a mould and probably around 1899 or so. Some of the later Northwood pitchers have pattern numbers hand painted on the bottom of the base, but this does not, indicating it was produced during the experimental and baby stage of colored glass production. Handle is applied and base pontil has been polished smooth. Light peach colored floral dot enameling with brushy leafy decoration of melon, yellow, light pink, and mint green. Top is ruffled. T are no chips, cracks, or repairs on this pitcher. T is a light scratch below the enameling about a half inch horizontally in length near the base. A few bubbles in the glass, two of the tiniest ones have burst to the outside surface but are not detrimental to the pitcher or it's sturdiness in any way. This is not uncommon for blown glass of this age. The glass is a striking peacock blue and sets a wonderful stage for the different colors of enamel. The unusual design of the enamels and the use of color makes this a very different and rare example of early lemonade pitchers. Sure to brighten up any collection of turn of the century Victorian glass! Be sure to check out my upcoming auctions for tumblers in the same color glass with similar enameling. Not a perfect match, but goes together just as well!
