Victorian Onyx, Seed Pearl Mourning Set 14k $1NR

This auction is for a lovely late Victorian mourning pendant and earrings. The pendant features four round bevel cut black onyx in yellow gold filled bead edged bezels. The center onyx has been drilled and set with a gold leaf containing a 2.3mm natural pearl. Decorative chains and a tassel festoon below the onyx stones. The clasp is the original "C" catch. The matching earrings feature a single black onyx with the natural pearl set leaf. These natural seed pearls measure about 2.6mm each. The bezels are yellow gold filled and the wires are 14k solid yellow gold. The condition on the pendant is excellent, untouched....the earrings are fair. The metal is in great shape, the pearls are all original but the onyx in both earrings has hairline cracks. We received the earrings with later date added screw backs. That jeweler over heated the earrings and the onyx protested. These cracks are clearly visible in the photos and are slightly visible as you wear them. The onyx is tightly held by the bezels and the leafs and are in no danger. We removed the screwbacks and added the 14k wires using a laser welder, this to assure that you have the best metal in your ears....the laser welder insures a perfect bond between the metals with almost no heat to further stress the onyx. The pin measures 41mm x 30mm or 1 5/8" x 1 1/4" inches with the tassle at 30mm or about 1 1/4" inches long. The earring face measures 17.5mm in diameter by 1 inch long from the top of the wire to the bottom of the bezel. The set is so fabulous we just felt that it did not matter that the earrings weren't as perfect as the pin. But, ultimately the bidders will decide!
