DESCRIPTION: This auction is for a huge old early 1880's pictorial family Bible. I am not an expert on this type of collectable so I will describe it as best I can...if you have questions please email me. The cover of the Bible is dated 1881, however I found a date of 1883 inside...thus I do not know quite how to date this. This is a wonderful book! It is leather bound and gilt. It contains the authorized edition of the New Testament and the revised version of A.D. 1881 arranged in parallel columns. The book contains a complete concordance referring to every passage of scripture. It has a comprehensive Bible dictionary in which every important scriptural word is fully explained. Also included; a complete history of each book of the Bible, cities of the Bible with descriptive scenes and events in Palestine, biblical antiquities, scenes and events in the life of Christ, historical illustrations of biblical text, biographical sketches of the translators and reformers, gallery of scriptural illustrations, Bible aids for social prayer, Apocrypha and Psalms and many other important and useful aids to the study of the holy scriptures.
