An exceptional find. Beautiful Victorian Hall lamp . Also called up and down lamp because it can be adjusted up or down. The lamp features a cylinder shaped globe, attributed to Hobbs Brockunier and Co .The hobs are longer and run in alternate rows. In the book "Hobbs Brockunier and Co., Glass" by Neila and Tom Bredehoft , cylinder glass, Dew Drop ,[ Hobnail ] shades are featured on page 152. Made in Ruby circa 1885 or 1886 . Book price for cylinder alone, in 1997 [ ten years ago] was $350.00 .The color is called Cranberry by some collectors but Ruby is the original name. It was made using gold in the formula and thus was more expensive than most other glass. The cylinder measures 18 1/2" in circumference . It is 6 1/2" in height . T are 12 rows of hobnails with 20 hobnails in each row. It has no cracks, chips, fleabites or repairs . T is one bubble inside the ruby glass plating at the very top. [ See picture ] It can not be felt on either side or even seen when lamp is hanging. The lamp was quite dark when I purchased it on a buying trip last month. I was quite surprised at the color of the metal when I began to clean it. The lamp looks like copper to me. It has copper rivets, screws, and fittings. The threaded inserts and pull down handle look like brass. Perhaps it is brass with a high copper content. T is no pitting or corroding of the metal, so if t is any zinc added to the copper it isn't much. It has 3 wooden rollers or pulley mechanisms, in good shape, with 3 ladder chains that roll over them. Overall height when lamp is attached to the chains is 3 feet 2' . I believe all parts are original except the small oval link at the very top that holds the lamp to the hook on the ceiling. It did not have a smoke bell with it.
