Up for auction, one magnificent antique Victorian Sailors Valentine Sea Shell Box adorned with many beautiful and exotic shells. What makes this box so special is that in the center t is a charming Victorian scrap, a picture of colorful sealife - shells, coral, plants, what looks like a steamship, a sailboat, and a large dock or pier. The caption underneath reads: FORGET ME NOT. The paper seems quite old, t is some crazing in places, though the colors are still wonderful and the graphics are clear. Above the picture, the shells form a heart, however t are 2 shells missing from the top, not difficult to add if you should so choose. T also appears to be a missing shell from 1 corner on the top. The 4 sides of the box are woven with thin strips of wood veneer or wicker, I don't know what the material is, t are a few missing pieces, which does not detract in the least, see photos. The bottom rim is lined with lovely iridescent shells. The top lid lifts off. Someone has marked with crayon on the inside of the lid, not visible when closed. The inside of the box is divided into 4 sections. Dimensions from the outside are 7 inches by 5 inches. T is one corner that has seperated somewhat at the top, does not affect the integrity of the piece - it is still solid and holds tight. It is beautifully constructed. This is an antique piece and does show some signs of age as mentioned, which I believe just add to the individual charm of the piece. It is a really lovely and romantic little box. It would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection and possibly the PERFECT gift for some lucky person. Please view all photos and consider them part of the description.
