I am still working through our collections and inheritances and I will be listing loads of bits and pieces over the next months I am still downsizing as I am STILL funding my youngest son fortunately a custody settlement (50%) was reached and he has now gone back to University (huge fees) but he is still the otherside of the world with no income for him and his daughter. This is another from my collection. A very lovely and detailed carved shell cameo depicting an Angel with what looks like a long spear and a seated maiden who is holding a tablet. Possibly the annunciation? The shell is a lovely dark coffee colour. It is set in a gorgeous intricate frame with twisted edge and scrolling leaf embellishments to top bottom and sides. I think the frame is silver gilt (or possibly low carat gold). It has a thick steel pin and C clasp. SIZE: approx 5cm high by 4.5 cm wide AGE: I believe mid victorian CONDITION: The cameo is in overall very good condition for its age. The carving is still crisp with no signs of smoothing. There are no chips,cracks. When held to the light there are a couple of fine stress lines just near to the column. It sits tight in its frame and the clasp closes tightly.
