VICTORIAN Silver VERY LARGE CIGARETTE BOX Hmark 1900 NR 22 troy oz. - NORFOLK REGIMENT - Very Rare - STUNNING This is a lovely VICTORIAN sterling silver mounted VERY LARGE cigarette box that was made in Birmingham, England in 1900 by the illustrious Victorian silversmiths A & J Zimmerman at their Regent Place workshops. It has a lid that is unlined and gilded to the inside, a wooden lining and a leatherette base. It measures 6 5/8" long by 3 3/4" deep by 2 3/4" high to the top of its domed lid. It is engraved with the crest of the Norfolk Regiment and Presented to the Staff Sergeants and Sergeants 2nd Volr Battn Norfolk Regiment as a small remembrance by Captain Edward Gloster Adjutant April 1897-Dec. 1990. It is very substantial but loaded - it weighs 677.3 grams - over 21 3/4troy oz. The base bears the hallmark A& over JZ, anchor, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), a and the top has lion passant and a showing that it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1900 - I have shown the hallmarks so you can make up your own mind. It is in very good condition with the usual light surface scratching and has gained only few dings and dents over the last 110 years but NO distortion to the hinge, NO splits or repairs and NO loss of lining. A really rare VICTORIAN box in SUPER CONDITION after over 110 years and at a very low start - this is one of the highest quality cigarette boxes that I'm had the privilege to sell - just a very thick gauge of silver!!!!!!! Postage will be 6.00GBP both within the UK and to international destinations. Please note that the primary postage costs are for second class (or standard parcels service if the postage cost is over 6.00GBP) within the UK or surface mail to international destinations. First class post usually adds 50% to the quoted postage cost while airmail is typically double the cost of surface mail.
