VICTORIAN SILVER TEA SERVICE & TRAY, Fine Aesthetic Movement Raised-Relief & Bright-Cut Design in Wonderful Detail: EXCEPTIONALLY FINE CONDITION! 's another fine quality offering at NO RESERVE from a2zGreatOldThings! You are bidding on an exceptionally high-quality Victorian five-piece silver tea service crafted in the Aesthetic Movement style, with raised relief, engraving and bright-cut work on quadruplate silver (with additional design motifs from both Art Nouveau and from Arts & Crafts). The service was made by the famous Van Bergh Silver Plate Company of Rochester, New York; and the bases are marked with a May 10, 1898 patent date, engraved maker's mark, and the design number. Remarkably, this set includes a Van Bergh tray with matching bright-cut center pattern (see photo 2), the only piece without the patent date mark. PLEASE NOTE that this "five-piece silver tea service" includes the tea pot and sugar bowl lids, but we are not referring to the set as a 7-piece service! The color is lovely, with an old dark patina left in much of the raised relief and engraving which occurs with antique silver. As we did not clean or polish this set in any way, it remains in excellent condition, although the set was quite clean when we purchased it at a Boston estate sale last year. T are no tears, cracks, holes, rust or repairs, and only some very minor scratches and wear which do not detract from its dramatic beauty: after all, this tea service is over 100 years old! The set is in excellent condition and would make a superb gift or fine addition to any collection. Our photos don't do justice to this service: it is absolutely stunning in person! The ornate raised relief is extremely detailed; the handles and spouts are accented with flowers, scrolling and fanwork (see close-up photo 5); the finials on the tea pot and covered sugar bowl resemble small floral topiaries; and the more stylized Art Nouveau design on both sides of each piece's body is accented with bright cutting and engraving. We have also provided "bird's-eye" views so you can view the extra-clean interior surfaces. The height of the hinged-cover teapot to the top of its stylized finial is just under 7 inches; its overall width is 9-3/4 inches from the outside handle to the pour spout tip; and its depth is a bit over 6 inches. The height of the covered sugar bowl to the top of its finial (matching the one on the teapot) is 6 inches; its overall width is 7-1/2 inches measured to the outside of its double handles; and its depth is 5-1/4 inches. The creamer's height is 3-1/8 inches; its overall width is 6-1/4 inches to the outside of its handle to the pour spout tip; and its depth is 4-3/8 inches. The waste bowl's height is 3-1/8 inches; its overall width is 7-1/4 inches measured to the outside of its double handles; and its depth is 4-1/2 inches . The large tray's diameter is almost 13 inches, and its high rim rises three-quarters inch from the tabletop. This exquisite service would compliment any style of interior design: Victorian, romantic, country, Arts & Crafts, or even could be displayed as an impressive centerpiece on the boardroom conference table of that special someone in your life. This is an outstanding find for any collector of Victorian quadruple silver plate (and an especially wonderful gift for that certain person who loves the beautiful design motifs of the Aesthetic Movement, Arts & Crafts and/or Art Nouveau). The service is offered at NO RESERVE, and for a highly competitive opening bid price which is far below its current fair market value. Please trust that we have made every effort to describe and photograph our items accurately. We want you to be satisfied that you are making an informed purchase (AND we want you to visit us again to find that special antique or vintage item), so any flaws will be disclosed in our descriptions and photos. We encourage you to ask before bidding if you have a question about our terms. Also, keep in mind that all ant...
