I'm having a clear out of a few of my antiques and collectibles, and one such item is my very rare and desireable three-piece solid silver tea set, made by the very famous and reknowned George Lambert. Type his name, plus "silver" into Google and you'll find that he was one of London's most celebrated gold and silversmiths during the Victorian period, and was Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths Company before his death in 1901. The tea set itself is in fantastic condition, and comprises a beautiful teapot, a delightful milk / cream jug and a sugar bowl with guilding intact. All three pieces bear a crest (but no monogram or initials, which is good!) showing a lovely stag motif. This is fairly typical of well-to-do Scottish families, and it is likely that this set was once in aristocratic ownership (in my opinion). The pieces are fully and clearly hallmarked as English Sterling Silver, with the lion mark. They also bear the London mark, and the maker's mark for George Lambert. The teapot and milk jug are dated 1893, and the sugar bowl is dated 1892. They are in the Queen Anne style and are really in wonderful condition. They display beautifully. The total weight of the set is around 920g. Silver is an appreciating commodity, and has quadrupled in value over the last few years, proving to be a better investment than gold. The "scrap" value of the set alone is over £700.00, according to one online precious metals buyer. This set could never be scrapped, however, as it is in excellent condition and is, of course, by George Lambert. Lambert's work sells for premium prices. A pair of small / medium silver candlesticks, made by Lambert in 1900, are currently being marketed for £1,175 online ( /silverware/candlesticks/j7954.html ) and a canteen of silver cutlery is on sale for £9,595 (although it does weigh 4.4kg!) See www./sdx5001.htm Given the condition of the set, its prestigious heritage and its intrinsic value, the starting price of £675 is more than reasonable, so grab yourself a bargain! The boring bit:- You bid to buy, not to haggle later. I will answer questions etc if you message me. Bidders with feedback below 10 will have their bids cancelled. Non-UK bidders must message me before bidding to check that I can send to them and how much it will cost - Generally, I will send to EU countries and the US but not others, sorry. Full payment by Paypal is to be made within 24 hours of the end of the auction - no alternatives will be accepted, and the set will be sent by signed for post, only to the winning bidder and the address given to me by Paypal as the payer's address. Postage:- If the set sells for over £995 I will include free postage. If not, postage will be £15 although I will refund any saving I can achieve on that, and this has been possible previously.
