Offered is a stunning Victorian silver handled basket in silverplate marked E. G. Webster Bro. N.Y. It is also stamped Hard White Metal and Quadruple Plate. The basket is from my personal collection and I've had it in a china cabinet for decades. The long oval form is unusual for a basket. Note the amount of openwork, from the high decorative shell feet to the unusual deep base gallery, the drop effects at handle ends on the sides, and the raised gallery on bowl edges. This is the ultimate in Victorian open pierced work. The effect is lacy and light, unlike clunky later Victorian wares. Bowl part stands 5 1/2" from tabletop. Measuring from tabletop to tip of handle, it is almost 13". Oval basket measures 12" x 7". Piece is in super-excellent condition, but for a single ding on the basket underside. I'm sure it can be smoothed out. Webster & Bros. operated from 1873-1886. The company made silverplated holloware, mainly German silver. I'm starting at fair price and no reserve.
