A very fine cast gilt bronze or brass stand with a mounted giant clam shell (Tridacna gigas). I think it was used as a fruit stand or similar. In earlier times exotic animals or trophies were so rare for the Europeans that they often added high end mounts, stands, frames or vitrines to increase their value. It was made of bronze or brass with genuine gold overlay (slight wear). .................................................................................................................. Condition: good, some traces of wear like minor dents on the metal base, missings to the sharp shell tips, hairlines from the point w the center hole was drilled. I would say that it is really good for it's age and fragility!Once a red textile has been glued under the base. Height : app. 5.1 inches. Length: app. 9.45 inches.
