You are bidding on an uncommon kit knife. Randall Models 14 and 15 (Solingen blades only) were available in kit form was Models 16, 17, and 18 were not. Kit knives could be purchased in the 1960s and 1970s but starting in early 1971 kit blades no longer carried the Randall trademark. Assuming that the knife maker bought the rough-backed Johnson sheath with SP-13 Norton soft Arkansas pocket stone at the same time, this knife dates to approximately 1970. This kit knife is exceptionally well made. The yellow linen Micarta handle is nicely contoured and pinned; it may have started out as Westinghouse ivory Micarta and yellowed over the years. The steel tang of the blade is exposed on the spine side of the handle only (see photo). Black Micarta can be seen as the sandwich material on the other side and the butt end of the handle. The 7 ¼" Solingen blade is in very nice condition but does have some light pitting near the brass guard and just below the hump on the reverse side of the blade. The logo side of the blade has very minor marks and a very few very light scratches. It does not appear that the blade has been sharpened other than of course by the original knife maker.
