Greetings, As you can see from the pictures, up for auction is a super example of a fighting machete/knife. This is a Japanese made Nata machete/knife. These knives were popular with U.S. troops serving in Southeast Asia . They found the 18" U.S. machetes unsuited to their particular kind of fighting. This style was so popular, that it served to influence the development of the larger Square Tip and SOG Bolo machetes. This particular version is a smaller version. More suited for fighting than heavy chopping. The overall length of the knife is 11 1/4 inches, the blade is 6 inches long, and 1 3/8 inches wide. The edge is hewer cut i.e.: beveled only on one side. The flat side has a visible temper line. The reverse side displays Japanese kanji, fuller and chiseled designs. Obverse has kanji, and is marked " JAPAN ". Handle has hammered ferrule and one steel pin with brass washers. Overall condition of the knife is excellent. Scabbard is made of wood and is covered with leather. Scabbard body is very nice with slight shrinkage and scuffing. All stitching is intact. Riveted belt loop is present but retention strap is broken on one side. Please keep in mind that this was not issued to our troops, they were purchased privately. I have had this SF fighting Nata machete/knife in my military knife collection for a number of years. This read more
