Up for bids is a quite rare and hard to find grouping of original survival kit and contents. This is the Rocket Jet Engine Corp. Part No. 776000-1 kit issues to US Army Air Force pilots. I got this kit used from my dad who was a CW4 supply officer during Vietnam and retired after the war in 1973. This auction is for all 8 pieces ( 9 if you included the cardboard holder) in GOOD/USEABLE condition. ITEMS INCLUDE: There is the kit container in 2 pieces The container is curved to fit in a thigh pouch (not included). It measures 8x6x2 inches at its widest point. *The top cover is made of steel and doubles a frying pan / cooking pot / eating dish. Good condition, some scratches and top and bottom wear marks where the paint is worn off. Sides are sharp and straight, no dents at all. *The bottom is high impact plastic with spaces to hold a flare launcher (included), 4 flares (not included) and a signal mirror (included). They were all originally affixed with od green duct tape ( not present unfortunately). It is in very nice condition with some minor scratching. It has 2 nylon straps with snaps to attach to top cover. Also a nylon carrying handle. These are all attached with aluminum rivets which are tight and undamaged. No cuts tears or fraying to the nylon straps. Snaps fit tightly and lock well to top cover. Inside of bottom cover has reflective tape affixed at 4 points. *One MK31 Mod O pencil type screw-in MK80 flare launcher. ( also screws onto the top kit cover to use as a frying pan, etc.) In Excellent condition, a couple minor scratches, spring mechanism for firing pin works superbly and has great firing force. Pin intact. This is 100% still a useable launcher. Requires MK80 style screw-in flares. (not included) No markings remain on the launcher. *One hacksaw attachment steel with plastic threading mount that screws into the flare launcher. Threads a little boogered but does screw in tight. Blade quite sharp. *One thin polished stainless steel signal mirror with center sighting cross. Measures approx. 2x3 inches. Some minor buff marks / surface scratching, does not affect performance at all. Very nice condition. * One 1 quart pvc? water holding bag in good condition, no holes or tears, I tested it and it does hold water and the strap on it is intact and works. It has some discoloration and one small stain on it about the size of a nickel. Heavy folds and curling from long-term storage. * One strap ( cotton?) with 2 steel snaps (fit tight) used to hold water bag rolled for storage and as a means of attaching other items to gear. Good useable condition, some discoloration from age. *One USGI field wire saw (Very sharp) with aggressive teeth and nylon cord handles in very good used condition. Comes with the original chipboard holder (in poor condition) for storage. I have tried to picture and describe these items as best I can. Being I am the original owner of the kit, I can assure you these are all genuine items of the period and I am virtually 100% positive these came with this kit, as it is the only one of this type I have ever owned.
