Vietnam War CISO SOG Bowie Knife

For Auction

A CISO SOG Bowie Knife.

The United States Counterinsurgency Support Office(CISO) on Okinawa provided logistical support to Special Forces Progams in Vietnam. The Studies and Observations Group(SOG) was one of such programs created in 1964. The Yogi Shokai Company of Naha, Okinawa provided the knives to CISO. The knives were likely made in Japan according to renown knife expert and author, Michael W. Silvey. The knives of this variety were delivered between March and August, 1967. These blades were serially numbered one through 3,500. The number was etched on the ricasso on the back of the blade. The earlier blades were blue in color. I am told that they are usually in the serial number range of 1-300. This knife is in excellent original condition. The blade is 6" in length and is blue. The serial number on this blade is 294. The blade appears to be unsharpened. T is a rich, untouched patina on the brass of the hilt and pommel. The knife comes with a well made black leather sheath. It has a grey hone that is original to the outfit but is unfortunately, broken.
