This auction is for a rearseam, swivel bale American M1 infantry helmet with a Westinghouse liner and all parts dating to 1965-’66. The Steel Helmet: This is a rear seam, swivel bale M1 helmet. It has T-1 left/right OD#7 green cotton webbing chin straps with concussion snap modification and anchor (North & Judd Mfg.-government contractor) strap hardware. Stamped inside the inner lip is “1 9423”. Condition Statement: There are no stress cracks , a little rust and small dents on this helmet. See detail photo. (dated: unknown contractor/date but probably McCord Radiator Co.) The Liner: This is Westinghouse (Westinghouse Electric & Light Company-government contractor) Type I infantry liner complete with all parts present. It has all webbing, “A” washer/rivets, and a proper head band. It is dome-stamped “US 4” (mold #4). Condition Statement: This liner is in good condition with the webbing and “A” washers in good-used condition showing some fraying and soiling. The paint shows normal wear. The “A” washers have normal rust/corrosion on them. There is a small chip on the rear edge (see photo) and some fraying on the edges, neither of which affect the liner. It is contractor stamped: ( dated-1966 ) LINER, SOLDIER’S STEEL HELMET M-1 (INFANTRY) TYPE I 6 JUNE 66 DSA The Head Band: The headband (sweatband) has all parts present with the leather still soft and lightly soiled. Condition Statement: All parts are in good-used condition. The material is clean and undamaged . It is contractor stamped: (dated-1965) HEAD BAND LINER HELMET DSA 8 The Helmet Cover: The Mitchell Pattern camouflage helmet cover is present and in excellent condition. Condition Statement: All five material colors are present. The cover shows light overall fading, light soiling, some holes, some wear in the area of turn-under (where it tucks between the liner and steel shell). There is one tear (see photo) on the left side—not too large. It is contractor stamped: (dated-1964-65) COVER HELMET CAMOUFLAGE CONTRACT NO. 9005 8 It has a neoprene helmet band (without cat eyes) designated: BAND, HELMET, CAMOUFLAGE U.S. Shipping/Handling: My shipping goal is to get this to you safely and cheaply. I use the USPS because they are inexpensive, relatively fast and I’ve never had a single problem with them. I offer Parcel Post (least expensive) and Priority (just a touch more money but a bit faster and you can tack insurance on it, if you want). If you want Delivery Confirmation add 80 cents onto either method. That way we both know it got there. I charge (50 cents) for the box and tape. A “complete” (all parts present) Vietnam Era helmet should have the following: *An M-1 steel shell with T-1 chin straps (both sides) (claw/hook). *A fiber helmet liner with top/side webbing held in with black “A” washers. *A leather/canvas webbing headband with contractor data prior to 1976 . *A Mitchell Pattern camouflaged cover with contractor data prior to 1976 . *Either a neoprene (OD#7) (Army) band or a black rubber band (USMC). read more
