REAL VIETNAM WARU.S. M-1965 JUNGLE HAMMOCK 100% ORIGINAL 1968 ISSUED ITEM! During WWII the troops fighting in jungle areas needed a way to keep dry and off the ground when sleeping. To address that need a new hammock design was put out by Quatermaster Corps. The final design had to stay dry for long periods of time. It was also to be used as protection against mosquitoes and other flying insects. As troops sleeping in a hammock were better rested they were then better able to carry on the fight in the morning. In fact, this type of hammock saw only limited use and only by select units, but despite its limited use it was acknowledged to be a very good design and has stood the test of time. The Vietnam War era saw an updated design introduced into service using a new nylon material. The M-1965 is still being used today. An example of official nomenclature of this hammock would be: "HAMMOCK, WITH CANOPY, JUNGLE, M-1965. NSN: 8465-00. Specification MIL-H-43132E, superseded by specification A-A-55282". The actual number is shown in a picture below. We do not feel that the US Army tag is original. T are two, one on one side and the other facing it inside. They were probably sewn in as field repairs but we cannot be sure of the motives, the tags seem to be very old as well. And, it appears that t was a glued tag present w the tag is sewn and we think it was the hanging instructions tag. Hammock screen has a couple of very small holes but otherwise this hammock is in most excellent condition. SIZE IS APPROXIMATELY 40" HIGH BY 77" LONG FANTASTIC CONDITION AND WE HAVE ONLY ONE AVAILBLE THIS IS A GREAT OLD REAL WARTIME ITEM WHICH IS HARD TO FIND IN GOOD CONDITION. PLEASE DON'T MISS IT! WOW!!
