Original Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) Japanese Woodblock Second Edition, circa 1860's Beautiful 19th Century Hiroshige prints from the Hoeido Tokaido- These fantastic oban Tokaido prints are all stations from Hiroshige's great masterwork -- The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido. Hiroshige's original series was released by the publisher Hoeido between 1831 and 1834. The original series was incredibly popular immediately upon release and established Hiroshige as a master of the landscape print. After Hiroshige's death, in the mid 19th century, Hoeido released a second edition printing of the original Tokaido. The second edition was printed with some of the original blocks and some repaired or replaced blocks for this later edition. Our lovely set of prints offered this evening comes from this second edition printing in the 1860s. These wonderful prints are a great choice for a collector looking to add a unique print to a collection. They are rarely found on the market. Original, first edition Hoeido Tokaido prints are rare and expensive in the market these days selling in the $2,000-$50,000 range depending on the subject. So, these later printings are a nice opportunity to round out a collection and a much more attainable price. They also make beautiful 19th century prints, with the lovely sense of age, to display in any room. Bid now! Comments- Terrific Hiroshige landscape from his Hoeido Tokaido series. In the foreground, travelers cross a bridge at Kakegawa on a windy day, kites flying above. Workers toil in the rice paddies beyond and Mount Akiba rises in the distance. Beautiful color and excellent detail in this Hiroshige print. Artist- Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) Easy Payment with Fuji Arts- Check out the payment options below making payment quick and simple.
