Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Series; Inner Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no Ooku) Chikanobu- One of the leading masters of the Meiji print period, Chikanobu had a long and productive career producing Meiji era wood block prints covering a variety of different subjects. He designed and produced a number of well-known single print series as well as multiple triptych series delving into various aspects of life in contemporary and historic Japan . He explored a wide variety of subjects in his wood block prints including; lovely scenes of wealthy beauties, tumultuous battle scenes from Meiji and Edo era war, and spectacular and haunting prints delving into the supernatural. Chikanobu's prints w released by a number of different publishers, mostly in Tokyo . The level of detail and excellent printing techniques resulted in some of the best prints produced in the Meiji era. Chikanobu's excellent designs were quite popular during his lifetime and many of the single prints and triptychs commanded high prices in the market. It is just in the last decade or so that lovely unique designs by Chikanobu have been prized in the collecting market. Chikanobu's prints have become increasingly popular, highly sought after and tfore more expensive for collectors. If you are collector of Japanese wood block prints, consider some of Chikanobu's beautiful and historic works. Some of the nicest Chikanobu designs can still be purchased at reasonable prices and are sure to increase in value in decades to come. Dressed in elegant kimono, they enjoy the summer day overlooking a vast iris garden. Prints depicting the natural beautiful of the classic Japanese iris are highly sought after by collectors.
