My father in law (age 93) purchased the entire Brouet portfolio of over 150 Artists Proofs, left over from the Brouet Estate, 20 years ago for 27K. This is the one etching that he kept. It is entitled “The Village”. The etching is 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 and 11 1/2 x 13 1/2 framed. I only accept returns if item is not described fairly. Auguste Brouet: One of the finest original etchers of early twentieth century French art, Auguste Brouet created over three hundred drypoints and etchings during his career. From a background of poverty, Auguste Brouet was apprenticed to first a lithographer and then a lute maker, taking classes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts when time and money would permit. The great Paris printer, Auguste Delatre, introduced Auguste Brouet to etching and his first original creation in this medium dates from shortly after 1900. Not surprisingly, many of Auguste Brouet's finest works of art deal with the poor and working classes of Paris and the surrounding countryside. In this light, several scholars have compared Brouet's art to the etchings of Rembrandt.
