This charming Villeroy and Boch Hires Rootbeer Advertising Mug stands 4 1/2" tall and measures 2 3/4" in diameter. It has a picture of a baby pointing while holding the same mug filled with rootbeer. Printed over the baby's head is "Drink HIRES Rootbeer". Later mugs featured this same child at an older age with the slogan, "Have Health And Good Cheer - Drink HIRES Rootbeer. T are no chips or cracks in the mug. T is hairline crack in the glaze only on the backside; it does not go into the mug itself. T is not much crazing to the outside, mostly around the raised bands at the top and bottom of the mug. The glaze is crazed on the inside and the bottom of the inside has darkened with use and age. T is a brown painted band on the inside of the mug as can be seen in the 2nd photo. The mug has the Villeroy and Boch stamp on the bottom stating it was made in Mettlach. This stamp was used from 1874 - 1909. I have seen the mug dated 1910 which was probably the year Hires gave these out. Above the printed stamp it reads, "MADE IN GERMANY - Mettlach" and beneath, "- FOR THE CHARLES E HIRES COMPANY-". The number 3095 is impressed in the mug and beneath that IV. T is a painted letter or number over the stamp - looks like it could be the number "4" or letter "A". T is a smaller "07" impressed along the side of the bottom. The bottom of the mug read more
