This auction is for a superb vintage carved ivory netsuke...depicting a mythological figure over an infant ...artist signed.

This carved ivory piece is 1 ¾" high, 1" wide and 1 7/8" long...fabulous detail, fine etching...depicting a mythological figure, looks to be a mermaid with long hair, possibly coral and other sea matter in the scene...the depiction undoubtedly represents some sort of Japanese legend...see my pics. This hand carved piece is in excellent condition...beautifully and intricately carved, wonderfully etched...signed by the talented artist on base. This piece came from an estate collection of rare and exotic ethnographic carvings and art works.

Please note this piece is made from pre-ban ivory, legally imported into the U. S. before the ban.
