From 1977 until the late 1980s, Vincent Price played a part that many people feel was his tour de force acting performance. The play was Diversions and Delights by John Gay, and the part was Oscar Wilde.In commemoration of this part, Vincent's artist daughter-in-law, Rini Price, created this figure of Price as Wilde. It is signed: Merry Christmas Love Rini and Barrett. It is carved from balsa wood, and is hand painted.This is a fine piece of art and a terrific piece of theatre/Vincent Price memorabilia! About Diversions and Delights by John Gay: Despite having appeared on the stage throughout his career, Vincent Price's greatest theatrical triumph was undoubtedly his one-man show, Diversions and Delights, in which he played the playwright and author Oscar Wilde. Written by dramatist John Gay (allegedly while waiting out the famed Writers Guild of America strike), the play is set in a Parisian concert hall on the Rue de la Pepinier in 1899 - about a year before Wilde's death, at the age of 46. In an attempt to earn some much-needed money, Wilde is speaking to the audience about his life, his works and, in Act Two, about his love for Lord Alfred Douglas.
