This is a 1989 Schumacher 4WD Pro-Cat transformed into a special-purpose vehicle. Nothing was drilled or butchered to create it, and it can easily be put back into racing configuration, which would be both fun and a shame. That’s because this Dodge-bodied truck acted as the official pace vehicle for STORM in the early 90s, the only racing series I know of that ran 1/10th NASCAR-style oval racers with true green-flag racing. Paced rolling starts, green flag pit stops, paced caution laps, and a set number of laps instead of timed runs. Quick-change battery systems were needed at a time when factory QC setups were either non-existent or hard to get. To that end, this pace truck is equipped with a combination of RAM flashing lights and strobes. Lights flash or turn off on 3rd channel command by twisting a knob on the Airtronics Caliber 3P 3-channel FM transmitter. Headlamps, light bar, and roll bar lights flash, while the tail lamps stay on steadily. Strobes located in the front turn signal housings are very bright and get attention. This vehicle and transmitter needs only batteries - 14 AA cells and one 9V battery (9V included) - and a 6 or 7-cell main racing pack to run.
