This is a 1989 Schumacher 4WD Pro-Cat transformed into a special-purpose vehicle. Nothing was drilled or butchered to create it, and it can easily be put back into racing configuration, which would be both fun and a shame. That’s because this Dodge-bodied truck acted as the official pace vehicle for STORM in the early 90s, the only racing series I know of that ran 1/10th NASCAR-style oval racers with true green-flag racing. Paced rolling starts, green flag pit stops, paced caution laps, and a set number of laps instead of timed runs. Quick-change battery systems were needed at a time when factory QC setups were either non-existent or hard to get. To that end, this pace truck is equipped with a combination of RAM flashing lights and strobes. Lights flash or turn off on 3rd channel command by twisting a knob on the Airtronics Caliber 3P 3-channel FM transmitter. Headlamps, light bar, and roll bar lights flash, while the tail lamps stay on steadily. Strobes located in the front turn signal housings are very bright and get attention. This vehicle and transmitter needs only batteries - 14 AA cells and one 9V battery (9V included) - and a 6 or 7-cell main racing pack to run. An aged saddle pack is included just to let you see the needed configuration. Apart from batteries, this pace truck is ready to load up and run. It is intended solely for paved oval pacing because of the extra weight of the additional batteries and slim ground clearance. With what I recall is an included 8-turn motor, it very easily outran the stock-class race cars anywhere on the oval in spite of its weight - a required trait to stay out of the way during a rolling restart. It is basically a riot to drive. The body is held down securely by Velco and is easily removed and replaced to re-top the batteries between services - no body wiring needs to be manually disconnected. Tested again just before listing here, everything works fine. The original chassis, bought new by me, has never been raced and has only been used a few times for fun before conversion. It is definitely not some clapped out, tired old R/C car. You not only get a ready-to-run pace truck with a Pro-Cat lurking inside, but a good-sized wad of spare parts just for the Cat still in their packages - because they were never needed. It never broke. What do you get? A 1989 Schumacher Pro Cat chassis, including original buggy body, protective undertray, and wing mounts, intact. Airtronics Caliber 3P FM programmable transmitter, matching Airtronics 92736 receiver, and full instructions encased in plastic binder sheets.
