This item is a wonderful vintage and very cute cast iron Hubley "Fido" Still Bank On the back of the puppy's head t is a patent date and the date on this Cast Iron Still Bank is 1914. This 1914 cast iron still bank is a wonderful older vintage and antique cast iron bank. Also, these early Hubley Cast Iron Banks were also used a Door Stops and they have some nice weight. This piece is not marked Hubley, but it is an early Hubley Cast Iron Bank and this cute puppy has the name "FIDO" WRITTEN ON THE COLLAR The name "Fido" was the protected property of Hubley. The original paint is still on this Cast Iron Bank and it must be noted that these banks were actually hand painted and you see many different colors and color variations of this original Fido Cast Iron Bank. You especially see different colors in the pillow. Both the Collar of "Fido" and the Pillow are a turquoise color - unique and attractive. Even though this bank has the original paint, as you would expect, it shows age and t are some paint chips and please expect paint wear and paint chips. We have tried to show the pictures so you can see the wear and chips. T is slight yellowing to the white paint. The original screw that holds the two iron halves together is still with the piece. Fido has the coin slot on the backside of the head and right above the cute collar. The creation of "Fido" with the round face and puffy checks is credited to the early female artist - Grace Drayton. Hubley took this creation and created Cast Iron Banks, Paperweights and Door Stops with this design. More on Grace Drayton is given below. Fido measures about 6 inches tall to the top of the ear. The pillow is 7 inches wide and 6 inches deep. This would be a great addition to any collection of Hubley items, great addition to any Cast Iron Banks or a great addition to any Boston Terrier collection. Fido is considered to be a Boston Terrier by most collectors. Although, some people say that Fido also looks like French Bulldogs. Some people have also called this Fido Pup PUPPO AND IT IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A VINTAGE CAST IRON STILL BANK Grace Drayton (Grace Gebbie, Grace Wiederseim) (1877 - 1936, USA) Grace Drayton was one of the first and most successful female cartoonists, and is of great importance to the comics world. Grace Gebbie, her maiden name, was born in Philadelphia in 1877, the daughter of an art publisher. She began freelancing as an artist in 1895. In 1900, still in her early twenties, she married Theodore Wiederseim, and created the series 'Bobby Blake' and 'Dolly Drake' for the Philadelphia Press.In 1909, as Grace Wiederseim, she published 'The Terrible Tales of Captain Kiddo', in collaboration with her sister, Margaret G. Hays . A year later, 'Dottie Dimple' appeared in the newspapers. In 1911, Grace divorced Wiedersheim and married W. Drayton, and became Grace Drayton. She illustrated children's books and created several comics, such as 'Toodles' (ca.1911), 'Dolly Dimples' (1915) and 'The Campbell Kids'. She created the adventures of Little Miss Muffet, the Man in the Moon, and others with Dolly Dimples and Bobby Bounce. Grace Drayton most lasting creation was that of the Campbell Soup Kids, the round-faced children with rosy and puffy cheeks which continue their popularity today. Yet, Grace's name never appeared on the drawings. After she left Campbell, she became well-known for her Dolly Dingle paper dolls in the Pictorial Review, from 1916 to 1922.
