I recently acquired these binoculars at an estate sale. The markings on them include some Japanese characters that I cannot read along with: âeoeNIKKO TOKYO No 571946âe (on one side) and âeoeOrion 6X24mm 9.3âe The 9.3 is followed by a degree mark that I do not have on my keyboard. According to some research that I have done on the net, these binoculars were first produced in 1918 and this particular pair is probably not older than 1923. I am not a binocular expert so I leave it to the buyer to determine their actual age. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. Externally, they were pretty dusty when I acquired them. I have cleaned them somewhat but some dust and soil still lingers. The lenses are nice and clean with no scratches or dings. When I look through the lenses the wrong way so as to make things small, I see a black line across one side that I think is probably a fracture inside the binoculars. It looks to me like it is not on the eyepiece lens or the objective. Its apparent position makes me think that it was probably caused by the slight dent along the edge on the outside. I do not see it when I look through the binoculars normally. I think that it might be in a prism or a mirror. When I look through the wrong way of the other side, I see three tiny dark specs that look to me like soil or something on the read more
