Vintage Early 1920's Beistle Chick 'Easter Greetings' Honeycomb Basket
Up for your consideration is a vintage 1920's Beistle Chick Easter Greetings Basket manufactured by The Beistle Company (printed name) also marked Made in U.S.A. This exquisitely designed pink tissue paper honeycomb chick 'Easter Greetings' cardboard diecut basket is printed on both sides. The diecut portion of the basket has a faux basket weave; including the handle with an imprinted 'Easter Greetings' gift tag. Two fluffy yellow baby chicks gleefully face each other at opposite ends of the basket sitting amongst a lovely trellis of purple violets. The graphics are simply unsurpassed! Notice the difference between the litho graphics on this much older basket compared to the litho graphics on the other Beistle Honeycomb 'Easter Greetings' Basket we are also offering for your consideration in another auction of ours this week. The litho on this basket, in particular the diecut basket portion when the basket is closed, uses a multitude of shading and colors verses only two colors being used on the other basket. This much older and rarer basket is quite extraordinary! The vintage Beistle Chick Honeycomb Basket is assembled using two cardboard hooks and a cardboard tab on each side of the basket. This baskets hooks and tabs remain strong and fully functional! They continue to support the opened basket without the assistance of paper clips! The basket is comprised of layers of pink tissue paper honeycomb with multi-colored tissue paper honeycomb Easter eggs which fold-out. The honeycomb eggs are ingeniously folded and are referred to as "turn-overs". Beistle's use of the harlequin pattern stamped on both cardboard sections of the honeycomb pull-out eggs dates this basket as an early version. Both the basket and eggs fold flat as the vintage Beistle Chick Honeycomb Easter basket was originally intended to be an Easter greeting card. The Beistle Honeycomb Chick Basket is in very good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The handle has some creasing, but it is not torn. Most examples are missing the handle completely! The gift tag has writing on one side (see photos). Both tabs and hooks have sustained light surface creasing, but are strong and fully functional as mentioned above. The honeycomb basket has some minute edge wear consistent with age. None of these flaws detract from this baskets beautiful display appeal, but it is only mentioned for accuracy. T are virtually no tears on the pink honeycomb cells that comprise the body of the basket! The basket is perfectly formed! The colors are bright without any fading! All of the honeycomb multi-colored eggs are intact and present. None of the eggs are torn, missing or broken off. The colors are bright with no fading! It is getting harder and harder to find these vintage Beistle honeycomb baskets in good to exceptional condition. If you have been looking for a Beistle 'Easter Greetings' Basket with quality and superb condition attributes you've found them in this example. This vintage basket has been gently displayed only on occasion, otherwise, carefully stored to preserve and protect its fragility. The pink honeycomb basket measures: 8"H x 11"D (diameter). This variant is much larger than the 7.5"H x 9"D (diameter) basket and is shaped much differently as well (please view the photo below of both variations). We are offering both of these beautiful baskets individually in separate auctions. The larger Beistle 'Easter Greetings' Honeycomb Basket, like this example, is rare and quite elusive in today's vintage marketplace. Please review all photos prior to bidding.
