What a find! I purchased a 1930 's watercolor painting at a local auction really only because I liked the frame. When I took it all apart to put the frame to more appropriate use, I was stunned to find this great photograph hiding between the watercolor and the backerboard w, I will assume, it has been safely nestled for decades. It is just under 14" x 11", beautiful clear black and white image with no creases or tears. No marks whatsoever on the back. I am no expert with Harleys, but I think these are the JDS series (JD with Sidecar) putting the date at around 1929. I have searched and searched for any history on the shop, 'Durlings Cycle Shop- Motorcycles and bicycles" to no avail. It's next door to the Macedonian Bakery, but no searches yielded results with that or any combination. Featured in this great image are ten Harleys with riders and sidecars, some of the sidecars are happily occupied. One guy is holding a nifty HARLEY DAVIDSON pennant flag, but they all look so proud and ready to ride! Not a helmet among them! The photo also captured advertising signs for Goodrich Tires and RED CROWN GASOLINE, which was a popular subsidiary of Standard oil at that time, mostly in the midwest. I am GUESSING this cool shop was in Macedonia, Indiana. I welcome any info you might have to identify it further.. This would be a terrific addition to any Harley afficianado, as well as collectors of Red Crown or Goodrich items or just a great slice of history for collectors of old photographs.
