Presented for auction is a vintage 1930s wooden, Japanese-made, cigarette dispenser. It is 4" tall x 7" long and features a carved wooden bird perched on a wooden cylinder. When the cylinder's lever is pushed forward, the bird bends over, a drawer opens, and the bird's beak extracts a cigarette. The bird then returns to the standing position with the cigarette. This item also includes it's original blue-glass ashtray insert. It is nearly impossible now-a-days to find one of these with the original ashtray insert and in such good, undamaged, condition. T is a maker's lable on one side of the box, which is entirely in Japanese. Design features a host of geometric patterns on the overlay...very colorful and unusual. T is also an ink stamp on the bottom, but we can not decipher it. A nearly identical piece is featured in the book "Smoking Collectible, A Price Guide" by Neil Wood on page 101. The book IS NOT INCLUDED in the auction...it is pictured only as a reference! Please read the following caveats. We honestly endeavor to describe each item as accurately and truthfully as possible.
