This is something unusual. This is a traditional Japanese country home caved out of wood in 1939. This was made from leftover wood used in building a Japanese Buddhist Shrine in Osaka (Sumiyoshi Shrine) in 1938. The makers name is Teru Matsuda. It is very well done. Look closely at the photos and you can see that the front sliding doors actually slide. So do the storm doors over the large side window overlooking the side garden. Its next to the door to the garden that also opens. The detail in this is fantastic and Mr. Matsuda obviously spent an incredible amount of time making it. He also has beautiful calligraphic writing where he described what he did to this on the bottom of the roof which lifts up. There are details on the inside also. There is an interior door and a tokonoma with a hanging scroll of a rock garden. The two windows are papered inside with rice paper. The Japanese flag mounts on the outside. It is 7 inches tall (18 cm) 8 1/2 inches wide (21.5 cm0 and 7 1/2 inches deep (19 cm). We have other antique/vintage Japanese items on ebay.
