Rare Vintage C. 1940's Brad Keeler Lettuce & Tomato Serving Platter Super Brad Keeler Lettuce and Tomato Serving Platter is very hard to find, and this one came right off its position as centerpiece on the dining room table of a New York estate. This piece is from Brad Keeler's Artware line. Aside from the obvious detail and rich glaze colors of Brad Keeler's work, the large lettuce and tomato platter is among collectors' favorite designs. A whimsical ceramic work sure to generate comments, this plate has the lovely folded edges, colors and glaze highlights that add such realism to his work. It's a nice size for a variety of purposes at approximately 14.5" in diameter and 1.5" high. It's properly marked "Brad Keeler" with an inscribed "S" and numbered "875" on the bottom as a Brad Keeler original work Made in California USA and is in excellent condition. Brad Keeler produced a line of figurines and artware in Los Angeles from 1941 until his early demise at the age of 39 in 1952. Brad Keeler was born in Lincoln, w his father was a ceramic engineer for the local Gladding-McBean plant. After studying art at USC, Keeler opened his own Glendale studio w he created naturalistic figures of birds and animals. These were air-brush decorated and enhanced with hand-painted details. Especially popular were the flamingo figures. In the mid-forties Keeler developed a brilliant red glaze which he called Ming Dragon Blood. This lead to the development of a successful line of Chinese Modern housewares...vases, ginger jars, low bowls, smoking sets and more. Please check out the photos. The quality speaks for itself!
