A vintage Cromwell automobile / car racing helmet. I think this probably dates from the mid-late 1940's, but am not entirely sure. Has a white leather covering over the hard inner shell. Heavier leather straps, ear flaps and skirting at the back. The inner lining of the band, skirting and flaps is a chamois or felt-like material. The white leather covering of the shell has some missing patches and tears, and is worn away on the top, front edge of the brim. The leather is also worn bare at the back edge of the shell. T are remnants of a gold winged wreath decal on the front of the helmet. The inner lining is all in excellent condition, very clean. The four snap buttons, strap and buckle are all working and in good shape. The label on top of inner lining reads "MADE IN ENGLAND - PROTECTIVE HEADWEAR - CROMWELL HELMETS LIMITED". T is no indication of size, but the inner circumference at the band is 22-1/4". Overall measurments are 5-1/2" high (head shell) x 8" wide x 11-1/4" (back edge to front of brim). This is all original (except for possibly the decal) and t has been no repairs or restorations.
