This is a rare group of Dinky Toys military to find together!! This toy 3-piece 18 Pounder Field Gun Set is part of my childhood Army collection from 1949-1952 and has been in my possession since then. One owner. You can be the second owner. At auction is a rare metal diecast set that is part of the 12 piece Dinky Toys No. 156 Mechanized Army Set. This is the original military green Dinky Toys 3-piece 18 Pounder Field Gun Set that connects together as a mechanized set consisting of: 1) #162A Light Dragon Tractor with Chain Tracks that pulls; 2) #162B Ammunition Trailer that pulls; 3) #162C 18 Pounder Quick Firing Field Gun with Tin Plate Shield. All made by Meccano Ltd. in England from 1946-1955. Very sturdy - total weight 4.1 ounces. The Tractor is designed to carry artillery personnel who fire the 18 pounder Field Gun with Shells carried in the Ammunition Trailer. The #162A Light Dragon Tractor has two chain tracks attached to four free-turning spoke wheels connected by two crimped metal axles that are connected securely to the bottom of the tractor. The tracks move freely. There are two stationary model motorcycles cast into the side of the tractor between the tracks on each side - a total of four. The troop carrier section of the tractor is open and recessed into the top with seating room for a least four artillery personnel and has four predrilled holes in the seating area. The tractor has a tow hook on the rear to tow the ammunition trailer. The condition of the tractor is excellent to near mint with only one tiny paint scrape nead the tow hook. Cast into the military green bottom of the tractor are the words Dinky Toys Made in England by Meccano Ltd. The tractor measures 2 1/2" in length, 1 3/8" in width and 7/8" in height. The #162B Ammunition Trailer has one metal crimped axle connecting two black rubber tires with ribbed hubs and a spare tire container on top of the trailer. It has a long tow loop that attaches to the tractor above and a tow hook on the back that attaches to the field gun. The condition of the trailer is near mint to mint with a hardly noticeable scrape with no missing paint on the top back corner. Cast into the grey tinged shiny tinplate baseplate on the bottom of the trailer are the words Dinky Toys Made in England by Meccano Ltd. The trailer measures 2 1/8" in length, 1 5/8" in width and 3/4" in height. The #162C 18 Pounder Quick Firing Field Gun has a square tin plate shield (with a open vision window at the top) surrounding the gun barrel and connected to the gun base in front of the enclosed metal crimped axle that connects two black rubber tires with ribbed hubs. The detailed casting illustrates the various mechanisms of the artillery piece. The extended hook loop on the back of the gun hooks to the tow hook on the back of the ammunition trailer. The condition of the Field Gun is near mint with one tiny paint scrape on the rear gun casing and a flat place on one tire with minor splitting. Cast into the green metal bottom of the gun are the words Dinky Toys Made in England. The gun measures 3 1/16" in length, 1 5/8" in width at wheelbase, and 1" in height at top of shield. This is a fantastic hard-to-find Dinky Toys set that would be a great start or addition to your military toy collection. Remember, it is 60 plus years old. I will combine shipping wherever possible.
