The University of Oregon football players came to Portland to play games at the Multnomah Stadium on Saturdays. I remember going to Sylvan and riding the Motor Stage to town early, possibly 9am for the 1:00 game. We were excited for the football game! When the players were leaving the field I would run down with the other kids to ask if we could carry the player's helmet up to the Multnomah Club ( team locker rooms were there) My dad was president of AAU for years. Dad knew stadium personnel, the the Multnomah Club manager and such connections to the game. read more
