The University of Oregon football players came to Portland to play games at the Multnomah Stadium on Saturdays. I remember going to Sylvan and riding the Motor Stage to town early, possibly 9am for the 1:00 game. We were excited for the football game! When the players were leaving the field I would run down with the other kids to ask if we could carry the player's helmet up to the Multnomah Club ( team locker rooms were there) My dad was president of AAU for years. Dad knew stadium personnel, the the Multnomah Club manager and such connections to the game. I recall my dad saying he mentioned to James Richardson what he would like for me. James knew the University of Oregon equipment manager, who offered this helmet. My dad brought it home and I have been a proud owner since that day. INFO: Helmet has been in non-smoking home, no sunlight exposure, dry environment displayed and safe stored/non-attic or basement Info search: For dating purposes, I viewed viewing game schedule/roster/photo for all years of OREGON FOOTBALL history. This site was very entertaining reading of player names by year. No team 1943 and 1944. I hoped to see a photo of helmet. The photo of Val Culwell 1941-42 does NOT have the wing front as this helmet. A photo of Bob Reynolds 1945 does NOT match this helmet either. I also viewed Oregon Webfoots Duck Football Uniform History aiming to see a player in helmet for dating this helmet. This site did mention the 1948 Hardcap came in green/white and green/yellow. Exact year team wore this helmet currently UNKNOWN. The helmet is clearly pre-1950.
