You have here up for auction a fully restored and completely cleaned vintage 1958 Gillette TV Special Flare Tip SuperSpeed TTO Double Edge Safety Razor w/ Original Case, Blade Bank, and re-knotted 23mm Simms Red Bakelite Shaving Brush. Both the razor and the brush have been through a vigorous cleaning process to get them to the point that they are now. The razor is 100% sterilized and shave ready. By sterilized I mean this razor has been cleaned to the point of surgical equipment.This rare TV Special razor is an absolute beauty. This razor and case was sold for only one year through a TV Promotion, you can clearly see TV imprinted on the front plastic lid of the case near the base of the handle. The razor itself is in excellent condition with only the slightest scratches and dings typical to any razor that is not NOS. There is only very minor finish loss, one very small spot underneath the head at the very top of the handle. This razor has the date code D-2, meaning it was manufactured during the 2nd quarter of 1958. The doors open and close perfectly and the bottom twists smooth as pie.This rarely seen shaving brush was made by the highly collectible vintage company Simms and has been re-knotted with a very high quality 23mm Synthetic 2-Band 'Best' Badger hair knot. This brush is a real beauty and the best part is that the handle is made of Red Bakelite. It has some absolutely gorgeous swirling in it. When restoring this brush I drilled down an extra 4mm for a total of 14mm to give this brush some extra backbone. This brush has a loft of 51mm. I also filled this brush with a high polymer resin making the handle much more sturdy and adding quite a bit of heft as well. This brush truly feels great in your hands. Synthetic knot brushes are some of softest knots available and create an extremely rich and slick lather. If you do not have a synthetic knot in your den you will be very pleased with the performance of this brush. The great thing about synthetic knots is they are already silky soft and do not require a long break in period. They are also perfect for shavers with extremely sensitive skin who are prone to irritation and redness. Not only does this set come with this stunning razor and brush, but also included is the original case this razor was sold with and white/blue Gillette Super Blue Blades double edge razor bank for display or used blade storage. The case is in excellent condition as well with only the faintest of scratches. There are a couple of small cracks in the case, but they do not affect its ability to open and close.. This case opens and snaps closed as it did over 50 years ago. Do not miss this opportunity to add this gorgeous piece of shaving history to your collection or every day shave routine. When breaking my brushes in I will lather them on the inside of my forearm and then rinse and let hang dry. Brushes should hang with the knot facing down to keep the handle in the best condition possible.
