Up for bidding is this Rare, Vintage 1958 World Champion New York Yankees Associated Press Wire Photo. Picture is in Black & White. This is an original print of an Associated Press photograph of the ( then ) American League Champion New York Yankees boarding a United Airlines plane. They are headed for Milwaukee, Wisconsin to play the Milwaukee Braves in the World Series. The Yankees would eventually win the series in 7 games. The photo was taken on 9 / 29 / 1958. It depicts the following Yankees and staff boarding the plane ( from bottom to top ): Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Casey Stengel, Hank Bauer, Bill Skowron, Elston Howard, Yogi Berra, Andy Carey, Bob Turley, Gus Mauch ( trainer ), Norm Siebern, Gil McDougald, Enos Slaughter, Tony Kubek and Don Larsen. Also included is the original teletype description of the photo's contents on aged paper. Print is in very good condition for its age. There is only slight marring of the glossy surface and some tape and glue stains on the reverse side. The photo is stamped on the back with the standard Associated Press notice regarding ownership rights. Picture was acquired from the collection of a retired Associated Press Sports Writer.
