Up for auction is a very nice, Vintage, 1960's Montblanc 149 . This pen is also known as the " Diplomat " or " Churchill ." The pen comes with the box and Montblanc filling instructions. This fountain pen is a piston filler , and it is working perfectly . I have had no problems with it whatsoever . This 149 is from the 60's as it has two grooves on the sloping face of the rounded feed ( 50's have these grooves running the full length of the flat feed and 70's have no grooves ). I would place it in the mid- 60's due to the lack of a horizontal grove on the feeder sloping face and a flat filler knob band. The 18k gold/platinum nib is in Near Mint condition, as it has been used. However, the pen has been thoroughly cleaned ( with lukewarm water only ) for its journey to the winning bidder. The nib is firm and falls between a fine to extra-fine point and writes with some minor flex. The feed and the section are in superb condition. The barrel is in superb shape and t are no signs of brassing or scuffs, scratches, cracks, or other marks . The cap shows no signs of brassing and shows only minimal signs of wear with some extremely light scratching that can be barely seen if turned in the light, nothing deep, and nothing abnormal whatsoever . The Pen is in Near Mint to the extreme high end of Excellent condition. The clip band on the cap reads " Germany ," but as this pen is pre-1991, t is no serial number. However, I absolutely guarantee the authenticity of this pen or your money back with an extra $100.00 for your trouble! How's that for a guarantee? The box of the pen shows some signs of aging, but is in excellent condition. The satin shows some off-coloring normal for its age, and the trim on the box shows some sings of very minimal brassing. Don't wait until the last moment to bid and find this fine pen slipping away from you. Bid now , and bid a fair price and you won't be sniped during the last few seconds of the auction! I have attempted to be as descriptive as possible regarding this pen. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Shipping & Handling is $5.50 for Continental United States, and $12.00 worldwide. Thank you for looking at my auction. Check out my other items ! * PEN GRADING:New Old Stock: Pen never met ink. Also, maintained in protected environment leading to superior external preservation. Mint: Pen never met ink. NearMint: Pen has been inked. Otherwise superb. Expect sharp imprints, unbrassed trim Excellent: Minimal wear. Trace high point brass IS allowed (eg. the clip ball of a Parker Duofold). Imprints sharp. Threads intact and functioning Extra-Fine: A gray zone grade offered as a concession to pens a nominal flaw away from Excellent. One feature is off. Imprint weak or a bit more brassing than is conveyed by Excellent. Consider Extra-Fine to mean "Pen is Excellent except for X", with X representing one weaker detail Fine: Still a nice pen. Moderate brassing, weaker imprint, more wear to plastic (light teethmarks) etc all can be in play. Pen still is clean and presentable. Very Good: The slippery slope continues. Light imprint, heavier brassing, stress lines (but not hairlines or cracks) to cap-lip, etc. Good: Quite Worn. more flawed, may have cracks, heavy brassing USERGRADE: User grade pens have a large flaw that is of great significance to value, independent of other grading features. Most commonly, user grade will reference a Hairline cap crack, barrel crack, bad cosmetic flaw, etc. Note that the flaw will be described, and the overall grade will be provided independent of the flaw that renders the pen USER GRADE. Fair - A parts pen some darkening, or some wear * NIB GRADING Mint: No evidence of wear or ink Near Mint: Signs of Ink Exposure, or Pen has been inked. Excellent: Mild Wear.
