VINTAGE NAVAHO YEI-BEI-CHAI SAND PAINTING Attached paper label on back reads, "YEI-BEI-CHAI (Dancer) Navaho Yei-bei-chai dancer is wearing a headmask, a fox skin is attached to the back of his belt, ribbons are hanging from his back. Rattle in right hand and spices in left hand & also some around his neck. Sands are natural colored rocks. (Ground)" Wilson Price Sheep Spring Tohatchi, N.Mex. 12 inches by 6 inches. The longer N.Mex. state abbreviation assists us in estimating the age of this very nice sand painting as the early 1960's or possibly earlier. The 2 letter state abbreviations became Postal standard in 1963.
