Rare Ideal 1962 Mr. Magoo Vinyl and Cloth Doll
This wonderful vinyl and cloth doll, Mr. Magoo, was made in the USA by The Ideal Toy Corporation of Hollis, New York in 1962 and still has the original Ideal Toy tag on his side and his original red scarf. The back of his head is marked: 1962 U.P.A. Pictures Inc. and the cloth tag is marked: It's A Wonderful Toy / Made in U.S.A by Ideal / Ideal Toy Corp., Hollis, N.Y. / Washable / Surface Clean / Do Not Submerge. Ideal Toy Company was founded as Ideal Novelty and Toy Company in New York in 1907 by Morris and Rose Michtom after they had invented the Teddy bear in 1903. The company changed its name to Ideal Toy Company in 1938. In 1982, the company was sold to CBS Toy Company, which in turn sold Ideal to Viewmaster International in 1987, which renamed itself to View-Master Ideal in the process. Quincy Magoo (or simply Mr. Magoo) is a cartoon character created at the UPA animation studio in 1949. Voiced by Jim Backus, Quincy Magoo is a wealthy, short-statured retiree who gets into a series of sticky situations as a result of his nearsightedness, compounded by his stubborn refusal to admit the problem. However, through uncanny streaks of luck, the situation always seems to work itself out for him, leaving him no worse than before. I am not an expert but I personally would rate the condition as good condition for being 49 plus years old (please review pictures and judge it yourself) he measures 14 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 5 inches deep. A great addition to any Ideal Character Doll and/or Mr Magoo Collection. This Mr Magoo does show some signs of being loved, he has been mended on his back side seat area (see photos 5 & 6) and also has small missing material in vest (see photos 1 & 2) and could use some cleaning .
