Vintage 19th century high quality boxed quill pen maker in excellent condition with no damage. There is minor wear to the leather-covered box but no tears or rips. This type of quill cutter was normally made around the middle of the nineteenth century. The handle is made of beautiful smooth cocoa wood, with a brass cutter and steel retractable knife. Several manufacturers made these, including Parkin & Marshall of Sheffield, Evans & Stevens of London, George Butler of Sheffield, Harrison Brothers, Cutlers to her Majesty, Osborne & Sons, John Sellers & Sons of Sheffield, Joseph Rogers & Sons, and the famous manufacturer Mordan & Co. There is no maker's mark on this knife but it is obviously a quality instrument. An interesting item for the user or collector.
