Vintage 1L. German Beer Stein w/Pewter? Lid...Nice!

Purchased in the mid 60's at auction, this German Beer Stein is 10.5" tall from base to the lid's point. The base is 4.5" in diameter. Two inscription (in German) are on each side and a brightly colored scene adorns the front. I believe the lid to be pewter, but I'm no expert. The lip of the stein is stamped "1L" and the base is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY" . Also stamped on the base is the number 70, the number 4 and the logo best described as a box with a tulip on it.
