At Auction is a rectangular Early 1900s 2 Gallon or 7.57 Liters Monarch Motor Oil Metal Can that is empty. I sold another Monarch Motor Oil Can in early February. Since that time my client found two more Monarch Motor Oil Cans in an old barn he inherited in Shelton , CT. He assures me that these are the last.. This second one I am listing today is not in as good a condition as the previous one that I listed earlier today and the graphics are gone on the cap of this can and are present on the other Monarch Motor Oil Can. All pictures are of the actual item I am selling.

Materials of Construction:

This painted metal can is constructed from sheet metal and painted background off white with hunter green letters, stripes, and dots.

Condition:

Good. Some paint is missing from scratches. T are two minor dents on the front side, one at the top left side and the other is on the top right side. On the back side, t are also two small dents, one on the upper right side and the other on the lower left side. On one side t are numerous scratches that have started to rust, but these can be stabilized. T are numerous small dents on the bottom of this can. Also t are some rust spots that have been stabilized on the top of the can and minor spots on the painted portion w the paint has worn off. These flaws do not distract from the charm of this old metal oil can and its construction. Please review the accompanying pictures.

Dimensions:

This Early 1900s Monarch Motor Oil Metal Can is overall about 11 1/2 inches tall with the rectangular vertical dimension about 10 5/8 inches by overall about 8 1/2 inches wide by overall about 5 5/8 inches deep.

Markings:

On the front and back of the can is printed "Two U.S. Gallons 7.57 Liters / Monarch / Superior / Motor / Oil / For Lubrication / Guaranteed / Vis-Seal Process" with what appears to be an illustration of a British Bobby style guard. On both sides is printed "100% / Pure / Paraffine / Base / Motor / Oil / A Blend of America's Richest Crudes / Monarch is guaranteed to be one of the / finest 100% pure paraffine motor oils / available; so produced by an exclusive / process. / Monarch will give lubrication service / affording the utmost satisfaction. / Monarch is guaranteed to give / 2500 miles of service when the / proper grade S.A.E. number / is used and - the proper / crankcase level is / maintained / Monarch Oil Co. / New York City ". On the top is stamped in raised letters "Contents / Guaranteed Only / When Seal / Intact" and "Punch For Vent". On the top cap is printed "Do Not Accept is Seal is Broken / S.A.E. / 30".
