Here we have a 33 piece American Flyer, 3/16" Scale Train Set which includes Engine & Tender, Box Car, Log Car, Caboose, 14 Curved Track and 8 Straight Track pieces, Transformer, Re-Railer, Pick-Up, Wire, Control Button and Instruction Manual, from 1947, Developed at the Gilbert Hall of Science in very good to excellent condition. All 22 pieces of track have their prongs or contacts at each end and the track has only a few spots of extremely light tarnish or surface rust which a swipe of fine sandpaper will remove. The Transformer is a No 2., 60 cycles, 75 watt transformer which works. The Engine and Caboose are both lighted with the light bulb not present inside the front of the engine. I have no way of testing to see if the Smoker works although judging from how it looks I would imagine so. All of the wheels are present and all of the hitches look to be perfect. I connected the Pick-up onto two pieces of track, ran the original wires from the transformer and with a tap to the engine it moved forward. The Engine is dusty and the wheels have a lot of lint around them - cleaning this and the contacts should make this set run great. The person I purchased this from told me it has been stored on the upper shelf of the hall closet since approximately the mid 1950's and worked perfectly when it was carefully packed and put away. The Control Button seems to be working properly and the Re-railer looks to be in operating condition. There are 2 wire straps which hold the logs onto the flat car; one strap is present. Both doors are present on the Box Car as is one of the door latches. The, 'Instructions For Assembling and Operating,' Manual is also present, complete and in quite good condition. There is not a reserve on this remarkable Vintage Set. Insurance based on the final price will be added to the invoice.
