is a terrific Vintage 5-Gallon Pickle Crock from National Pickle and Canning Company of Chicago. A large and attractive piece, this measures about 14" tall and 12" across at the widest point. It has a mellow salt glaze finish with crisp dark blue stripes and print. It reads: NATIONAL PICKLE & CANNING COMPANY CHICAGO, ILL. VOLUME 5 GALLONS The bottom is stamped Dec 16 This crock is in great condition, and displays beautifully. I have provided lots of photos to enlarge so that you can evaluate it -- are some things to look for: The finish is still nice and shiny, with small overall crazing The handle is in very good condition, with some paint loss on the wooden handle and some very light surface corrosion in spots on the metal arms Some rim chips on the interior rim w the lid would have rested; t is no lid Some firing pops and flaws, common to this type of utilitarian stoneware A very, very tight hairline crack about 2.5" long at the rim -- I could not feel it with my fingertip. A few other smaller tight hairlines elsew around the rim Some finish chipping on the inside bottom (probably from things having been dropped in) A really nice example of advertising crockery, offered at no reserve.
