Well - as promised - is that SUPERTEST can we told you about in the White Rose can offering of a week ago. As you can see, what is being offered this time to you the prospective buyer is a 5 Imperial Gallon SUPERTEST SUPER DUTY motor oil can painted in green , orange and white with a silver finished top and the bottom being a gold finish of sort. This can is original and HAS NOT been cleaned or polished by ourselves since we purchased it sometime ago. As you see it - is as we've had it - in our collection for all the years. It is not a concourse can but with a little cleaning and a possible light rubbing compound application - waxing and a bit of elbow grease we feel the finish could be brought up a few notches - but that would be up to you - we're not ones to clean our antiques and collectables - we like that patina from days gone by . It shows - not bad - for a can of its age - for the use its probably had - and for w it had been primarily used and that is - around garages, cars etc. The text is English one side - French on the other and is in excellent - clean - readable and vibrant condition . It is a fairly old can with the manufacturers stamping in the bottom indicating "CCC" and you know what that stands for - don't you? - all of you SUPERTEST fans out t! From the pictures, you can see that the text is quite ledgeable making it unnecessary for us to re write it at this time. The can comes compete with its original wire handle and wooden grip . The top is complete with its large screw-on cover and ' excellent ' cork gasket - for filling and an integral pouring spout with " SUPER DUTY " painted on the painted screw-on cap . The inside of the screw-on cover looks brand new and ' mirror like' in appearance. The screw- on cap does not have a gasket on the inside but a fiber or coated cardboard liner of sort to fill the whole lid - which by the way is in excellent condition . The brackets which hold the handles in place look excellent - well attached and are finished in a silver grey . T are numerous scrapes, scratches and some dings around this can with slight crazing (spidering) showing in the paint. The inside of the can appears to be extra clean and fresh looking for its age. The finish on the top of the can seems to be a painted a silver or gray color and shows a fair amount of light rust imperfections coming through the paint - especially around the filler. The filler neck has a slight brownish finish to it that doesn't seem to be paint but possibly a plating of sort and is in excellent condition. The one seam in the body of the can shows surface rust - as well does the bottom rim and bottom plated surface. These rust areas seem not course enough to penetrate the can and could possible be rubbed out or 'lessened' a little. When tapped the can has a true ring about it, indicating to us - like a bell - it is solid and true. All in all, this fairly rare CANADIAN made - CANADIAN OIL COMPANY - SUPERTEST 5 IMPERIAL GALLON CAN is an item that would look terrific in any one of the better collections out t . We feel fortunate to have been able to have it in ours but now it is time to pass it along for someone else to enjoy. Also for your information re: shipping, size and weight - the tin itself has an outside diameter of approximately 11 ½", total height of 17 ½" and weighs approximately 5 lbs. Please take this into account should you decide to bid.
