Available is a fine example of the superb workmanship characteristic of historic Dedham Pottery artisans and in the unusual water chestnut pattern."All Dedhamware is marked with the grey crackle with blue decoration - one of the most beautiful products - is a porcelain body of the hardest and finest quality, with a soft grey glaze finely and curiously crackled and a blue in-glaze decoration. Fired at a heat of from 2,000-2,500 degrees, the result is a softness of line and quality of colour that harmonize beautifully with the delicate tracery of the crackle." Hawes, MD).Offered today, this horse chestnut plate displays with crisply painted chestnuts, flower buds & rich blue leaves imbedded on a finally crackled background (as shown clearly in the photos). The plate displays a very fine, 'delicate tracery' of crackle and gloss glaze marked with a bold blue Dedham Pottery -Registered stamp on the back, dating it between 1929-1943. In excellent condition, minor roughness is noted to touch on small .5" section of the edge, glaze pulls noted on the back of the plate are common to the manufacturing process (please see photos).
