This auction is for a wonderfully carved pre-ban fine ivory jewelry box...reticulated carvings from one piece of ivory......circa early to mid 1900s.

This wonderful hand carved ivory box is 3" high, oval opening diameter is 2 ¾ inches at widest point...wonderful detail, fine etchings...carved from an early section of elephant tusk...see my pics. This fabulous hand carved piece is in excellent vintage condition...beautifully carved...wonderful pronounced cross hatched grain...nice patina...normal age cracks. The piece has a fitted carved ivory top...carved elephant and palm tree...top palm leaves look to have been broken and reattached...hand custom made carved ivory detents...spring loaded balls...fits in carved ball sockets...mechanisms work great.

This piece came from an estate collection of rare and exotic ethnographic carvings and art works. Please note this piece is made from pre-ban ivory, legally imported into the U. S. before the ban.
