VINTAGE ALASKAN ESKIMO DOLL with SEAL FUR and BEAD work Up for your consideration is an Alaskan Handmade SEAL FUR DOLL Approximate Dimensions: 10" Tall and 5" wide at widest section. This is a lovely vintage Native Alaskan Eskimo doll, made of seal fur, hide, and other types of furs, beads, yarn and felt. The dolls parka and pants are seal fur trimmed in other furs, which could possibly be muskrat, rabbit, beaver or wolf, usual furs used for dolls in Alaska . The parka is trimmed with felt and bead work around cuffs and base of parka. T is also some bead work on the front of the parka. The face, mittens (which can't be seen in photos), mukluk bottoms and ties are hide. The hair is black yarn and the facial features eyes, nose and mouth are sewn with yarn. This is a quality made doll from Alaska in very good condition with no fur or bead loss, and no stains that I could see. In the photo of the back of the leg, the right one looks like t is hair loss, this is actually a piece of thread that wasn't stitched in tight. My mother, who collected Northwest and Southwest Indian pieces, probably purchased this at the Native Hospital in Anchorage in the late 1970's or early 80's. The makers name has been lost. The Natives brought their crafts to sell on consignment in the hospital when they came to town. The Doll would make a great read more
